DIY Painted Bookshelf

There's something to be said about an original, authentic piece of wood furniture – from its history to the quality of its material.

But sometimes, that thrifted piece just needs a little bit of paint and some TLC - to give it new life.  Let me show you how you can do it.

What you'll Need

– Oil Based Primer – Paint  – Paintbrush  – Foam Paint Roller – Paint tray – Drop Cloth or Cardboard – Sandpaper – Peel and Stick Wallpaper

Step 1 - Clean the Bookshelf - Pour Murphy’s oil soap into a bowl of water. Take a rag and dip the cloth into the cleaning solution. Wring out the excess water and begin wiping down the wooden furniture.

Ensure all the surfaces, including the sides, top, and inside of the drawers, get cleaned

Step 2 Inspect and repair the bookshelf. Use wood filler to fill deep scratches and gouges and remove loose screws, loose boards and splinters.

Step 3 -Sand the bookshelves. Use sandpaper or an orbital sander to sand the surface. Sand the bookshelves until smooth and free of any bumps or imperfections.

Step 4 -Apply Primer. Apply a thin layer of primer to the bookshelves using the paint foam roller or paintbrush. Make sure to cover all surfaces evenly

Step 5 -Paint the Bookshelves. Use the foam roller to paint the bookshelf. Use a small paintbrush to get the creases and crevices of the bookshelf that the roller can’t reach. Apply 2 coats for best results.

Step 6 -Add Wallpaper. If bookcase does not have back, create one using foam board and wallpaper.
