Charming Fixer Upper Home Tour

Welcome to the Charming Suburban Home! This ranch-style home was originally built in 1963. The home is located in Georgia, and it consists of 3 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. However, the home had been neglected of essential maintenance and upgrades for many years.

We bought the house in 2022, and we hit the ground running and worked on renovating it night and day. It took all of two months to remodel and renovate this entire little fixer-upper. We gutted the bathroom, painted it, and added new floors and brand-new kitchen cabinets.

Thankfully we were able to preserve a number of things, including all the windows and the sliding patio door, exposed wood beams, the front door, and the living room fireplace and bookshelf. Most of what we kept required thorough, deep cleaning. Today, it is a vacation and Airbnb rental.

LIVING ROOM

The living room is by far one of my favorite makeovers of the house. For the living room, we used the same vinyl flooring used throughout the kitchen. The main feature of the living room is the updated whitewashed fireplace and stained bookshelf and existing mantle.

We kept the wooden beam that separated the kitchen and living room because it added a certain character and cozy look to the space. The walls were painted, and the original windows were kept.

KITCHEN

The previous kitchen had older deep dark brown cabinets that had been painted several times and broken. The floors had several layering of tiles. And the walls had wainscotting slapped on them. We decided to tear down the cabinets, remove the laminate countertop, rip up the layer of flooring, and remove the wainscotting off the walls.

We replaced the drywall and patched up drywall that was salvageable. We kept a similar layout but added lighter-colored grey cabinets, granite countertops, lighter vinyl plank flooring, and of course, fresh paint to complete this space! We went with light colors to make the space feel more open and bright.

BATHROOM

The bathroom had a hole in the center of it that went directly into the crawl space. To say it needed a complete gut job is an understatement. We removed everything, from the tub, tile work, vanity, and flooring.

We updated the plumbing, updated the electrical, and added a new exhaust fan and lighting. We repaired the subfloor, added brand-new tiles to the floors, wall-to-floor shower tiles, and a new bathtub, toilet, and vanity.
