Walmart is known for having one of the more generous return policies in retail, with many items eligible for returns within 90 days of purchase. However, there are quite a few exceptions hidden in the fine print that can catch shoppers by surprise. Before you buy, here are 12 items Walmart generally won’t accept for returns or refunds.

Alcohol
Beer, wine, and spirits are typically not eligible for returns at Walmart. State and local alcohol laws vary, but most jurisdictions treat these purchases as final sales.
Prescription Medications
Prescription medications cannot be returned once they have been dispensed by Walmart’s pharmacy. Federal regulations and safety concerns prevent pharmacies from accepting medications back, even if they are unopened.
Firearms and Ammunition
Walmart does not accept returns on firearms, ammunition, BB guns, airsoft guns, crossbows, or similar products. Because of safety concerns and strict regulations, these purchases are considered final sale.
Gift Cards
Whether it’s a Walmart gift card or a prepaid Visa card, gift card purchases are generally non-refundable. Once activated, the funds cannot be reversed or returned to the original payment method.
Diabetic Supplies
Items such as glucose meters, test strips, lancets, and syringes generally cannot be returned. Because these products are health-related and often regulated, Walmart restricts returns to protect customer safety.

Gas-Powered Recreational Vehicles
Dirt bikes, mini-bikes, go-karts, ATVs, and similar gas-powered recreational vehicles cannot be returned. Due to safety concerns and the difficulty of verifying usage after purchase, these sales are considered final.
Tobacco Products
Cigarettes, cigars, smokeless tobacco, and related tobacco products are non-returnable. Health regulations and product safety standards prevent Walmart from accepting these items back.
Hazardous Materials
Products classified as hazardous materials may have special return restrictions or may not be returnable at all. This category can include certain batteries, flammable liquids, aerosols, chemicals, and products containing rechargeable lithium-ion batteries.
