This homemade playdough recipe is incredibly simple and perfect for kids to enjoy. When we made it, adding the purple coloring was definitely the highlight! Kids love picking their favorite colors, and watching the dough turn a vibrant purple made the whole process even more exciting.

Not only do they have fun playing with the playdough afterward, but the real joy is in creating it together. It’s a great way to bond and spark creativity while making something they’ll love.

Here’s a quick guide to making your own playdough at home, with any color—like our fun purple version!

Materials

  • Lavender flowers
  • Lavender essential oil
  • ½ cup conditioner
  • 1 cup corn starch
  • Purple food dye

Instructions

Step 1

Add the corn starch and conditioner to a bowl and start mixing together. At first, it will seem like it won’t stick, but eventually, it will.

Step 2

After it starts to clump together, you can use your hands to mix the dough until it is all combined.

Step 3

Then, add a few drops of food dye and mix the dough again until the color is all mixed throughout the dough. I used about 6 drops of purple food dye to get this look.

Step 4

Once you have your desired color, add one drop of lavender essential oil and mix once again. You can add more drops of essential oil, but I found one drop to give the perfect amount of smell.

And that’s it. Once done, I used fresh lavender flowers to make it look pretty. But keep in mind that artificial ones work too.
