If you’ve been searching for a homemade dishwasher detergent that truly gets the job done, you’re going to love this simple recipe. It’s an all-natural dishwasher powder made with just four basic ingredients—washing soda, borax, citric acid, and sea salt.
It’s tough on grease and stuck-on food. Unlike most store-bought detergents, this version skips the harsh chemicals and plastic packaging. It’s effective, eco-friendly, and costs just a fraction of what you’d pay for conventional brands.

Ingredients
- 1 cup washing soda
- 1 cup borax
- ½ cup citric acid
- ½ cup sea salt
- 20 drops essential oils (citrus is great!)
This makes around 16 ounces.

Instructions – Homemade Dishwasher Powder
Step 1
Add washing soda, borax, sea salt, and citric acid together.

Step 2
Slowly add in essential oils. This is optional, but we like to use citrus essential oils.

And that’s it. Super simple to make.

How to Use
Add 1-2 tablespoons to your dishwasher.
