Something that sat in a closet for years can suddenly catch a collector’s attention. Maybe it’s an old typewriter, a box of records, or a piece of furniture that belonged to a grandparent. You might see clutter. Someone else might see something they’ve been looking for.

Age alone doesn’t make an item valuable, though. Condition, rarity, brand, age, and demand all matter. Some pieces are worth very little, while others can bring in much more than you’d expect.

So before you donate that box of old belongings or put everything in a yard sale, take a closer look. You might have something worth selling.

Typewriters

Old typewriters from brands like Underwood, Smith-Corona, and Remington have found a new audience among collectors, writers, and people who simply love the look of them.

Their heavy construction and classic designs make them fun display pieces, but certain models can also bring decent money. Condition matters a lot. A typewriter that’s clean, complete, and still works will usually be more appealing than one that’s missing keys or covered in rust.

If you find one in an attic or storage room, don’t assume it’s just an old office machine.

Vintage Clothing

The funny thing is that some toys people barely thought twice about as kids can become difficult to find decades later.

So before cleaning out an old toy box, check what’s inside. That dusty toy you almost forgot about might be worth more than you expect.
