Best Airbnb Bedroom Ideas

1. Charging Station for Personal Devices

It is a good idea to always have a charging station or outlet where guests can charge their phones, laptops, or other personal devices. The last thing you want is for your Airbnb guests to unplug one of your household items, move furniture around or crawl under space to make room for their devices.

The best way to avoid this is by having smart items in your Airbnb bedroom. These smart items can include items such as lamps with built-in USB ports, smart clocks with plugs, or an extension cord that is easily accessible. This is especially great for guests who are working remotely and need to be plugged in and connected. You want your guest to have home-like experiences when staying in your Airbnb bedroom.

2. A Comfortable Mattress

A mattress is a huge factor in our ability to sleep well. Whether a king-size or queen bed, it is important to have a very comfortable mattress. A good night’s rest is priceless, and most guests want a bed where they can rest and recharge. A new mattress should never be overlooked in a vacation rental.

Overlooking the mattress can automatically lead to negative reviews. I personally like Casper mattresses, but they can sometimes come with a hefty price tag, so if you are on a budget, Amazon has some great budget-friendly options with great reviews.

3. White Bedding

Depending on the target guest, high quality white bedding (sheets and comforters) is a must. White linens make the best impression and communicate cleanliness well.

White sheets are also a standard across many high end hotel and even lower tiered hotels. While your vacation rental properties and Airbnb bedroom is not a hotel room, it is vital to note of what the hotels are doing. White sheets will give your Airbnb bedroom a nice, crisp, clean look.

However, all the bedding does not have to be white. You can always opt for lighter colors, such as light grey or light blue, for alternative bedding colors.

4. Bedside Tables

A nightstand is an essential Airbnb decor item. Your potential guest may want the convenience of certain items in reach while they’re in bed, including their phone, book, alarm clock, a bottle of water, or tissue. If you have extra space, a side table on both sides of the bed is ideal.

However, if it is a small space, an alternative could be a small floating shelf. Floating shelves hang on the wall and do not take up any floor space. A great place to start to find these shelves would be Ikea.

5. Bedside Lamps

Not only does the bedside table lamp serve as a decorative element, but it is also a great option for mood settings and guests who like to read in bed. Some might say there is an art to choosing the right lamp – from the right amount of lighting, and adjustability, to its size and shape. Whatever you choose, ensure it is the right fit for the bedroom. If space is an issue, pendant lights or wall-mounted reading lights are viable solutions.

6. Faux or Live Plants

Plants are not just for outdoor spaces and the living room – they can be a good addition to an Airbnb bedroom. It is literally a breath of fresh air and can improve air quality in the Airbnb bedroom. Having indoor plants in a bedroom is also a great way to add character to a space.

If you don’t have the capacity to maintain house plants, then your best choice is to consider fake plants. Fake plants are an excellent option for a rental property as they require little to no maintenance. Fake plants are not dependent on sunlight, nor do they need to be watered to survive, and there is no risk of allergic attacks from allergy sufferers.

7. High-Quality Bed Frame

The last thing anyone wants to do is to sleep on a bed that is noisy or squeaky. The guest bed must be sturdy and durable and able to withstand heavy weight. The first time I stayed at an Airbnb alone, the best squeaked the entire night with every twist and turn I made. To say that I slept horribly is an understatement. Think about this the next time you furnish your Airbnb or vacation rental.

A bed frame can make a big difference between good reviews and bad reviews. Check out this excellent NYTimes article on the 9 Best Modern Bed Frames to choose from.

8. Pillows

There are different types of pillows for every sleeping position. You may have guests that are back sleepers, side sleepers, or even stomach sleepers. The best pillows for your Airbnb will be accommodating to the majority of your guests.

It may be a good idea to have a soft (down-like) pillow and a medium firm pillow. If you include accent pillows, it is unlikely that the guests will sleep on them, so they should not be a part of the actual sleeping pillow count.

While you may not be able to satisfy all guests, you may even want to leave out extra pillows in the closet for guests with specific preferences. And don’t forget to use pillow protectors to protect your pillows from dust mites, bacteria, and bed bugs.

9. An Area Rug

Whether during the winter months or summer months, it is nice to have something soft to step on when you get out of bed. No one wants to step on cold solid floors in the Airbnb bedroom. An area rug can be a nice touch and a great way to give the master bedroom a more cozy feel.

Depending on your color scheme and accent colors, you can choose a Persian rug, sheepskin, or tufted rug to help bring the room together.

10. Curtains or Blinds

Blackout Curtains and Blinds are great for privacy and filtering out light. Although most of us enjoy natural light, our guests may not prefer to be forced to wake up while on vacation. Guests have told me that this is one of the first things they look for on Airbnb listings.

So make sure we are incorporating the items that guests genuinely need and want. This simple addition can go a long way in the guests’ stay. In addition, black-out curtains can help to reduce energy costs in our rental space by reducing the sunlight that heats up our space and the level of air conditioning needed.

11. Throw Blankets

Blankets are a requirement for all Airbnb bedrooms. Throw blankets can also instantly upgrade a guest bedroom, giving it a warm and cozy vibe. Throw blankets are great for a layered bed. And sometimes guests just need an extra layer of comfort or something to cuddle up with while in your space.

Arguably, some might say there is a difference between a “throw” and a “blanket.” I’d say choose a throw blanket that fits both definitions and can do all the things mentioned here.

12. A Dresser or Chester

Most guests want somewhere they can store their personal items. Depending on the size of the room, a dresser or chest can be an excellent solution. It does not have to be high-quality furniture from west elm but instead a dresser that is durable and functional. You can find lots of used durable furniture online, in-store, or at a local thrift store.

If the room size or setup simply does not allow a bulky dresser, then opt for dresser alternatives, such as a luggage rack, storage cubes, or a nightstand with drawers. This will give your guests somewhere to store their items.

13. Hangers

As simple as this might seem, many hosts forget to include hangers in their own Airbnb. This should be on every Airbnb host checklist. This is especially important for those with business attires or individuals with garments that require hanging. Make sure there are enough for two people to hang at least five sets of outfits each. These might likely go missing, or they may often break, so make sure you check and replenish as needed.

14. Seating Area

Depending on the size of the room, a seating area is a great idea. Guests often want somewhere other than the bed to sit. This is ideal in a master bedroom but can be done in a smaller bedroom as well. Either a chair or bench will suffice. Guests can use it as a seat to get ready, put on their shoes, or simply read a book. This is an easy way to add another level of comfort to the bedroom. It is the one place where the guest may choose to relax and unwind.

15. Full-Length Mirror

A full-length mirror in a bedroom is ideal for the guest experience. The bedroom is where the guest will get dressed and will want to see themselves from head to toe. You can lean it against a wall, hang it behind the front door of the bedroom, or tuck it in the closet. You can check out Walmart for some affordable options.

Things to Avoid when Decorating your Airbnb Bedroom

Anchor Furniture

You need to ensure that your furniture is kid-proof by anchoring all furniture in the bedroom to a wall. From the dresser to the computer desk, it must be anchored to the wall to prevent a tip-over. Furniture tip-overs happen more often than you think, so you must get ahead of a potential accident happening at your property by installing anti-tip devices on furniture and TVs. The last thing you want is for a child to play with a piece of furniture, and it accidentally falls on them.

Secure the Rug

As attractive as rugs are in the vacation rental, rugs that slip and slide can be hazardous. A slippery rug can lead to a slip and fall in your Airbnb. So be sure to secure all area rugs by placing a rug pad, felt pad, or carpet tape underneath the rug.

Clutter Free Space

Most guests look for spaces that are clean and clear of clutter. Your guests do not want to have to walk around an item or accidentally trip over something. Having a clutter-free space will ensure that your guests seamlessly experience the bedroom with limited interruptions. Keep the bedrooms clean, simple, and clutter-free, incorporating only the necessary and essential pieces of furniture and decor.

Candles

While candles are considered romantic and cute and great for mood settings, they can also be a fire hazard and a liability in an Airbnb. While you might be tempted to leave out a candle or two for your guests, it’s best to err on the side of caution.

I hope that you have found these tips helpful. Curating the perfect Airbnb bedroom is not an easy feat, but a well-designed bedroom will impress guests and make a huge difference in your bookings. Guests will always appreciate the little touches that show that you have gone the extra mile. And you don’t have to be an interior design expert to implement some of these ideas.

The best Airbnb design will include some (if not all) of these items. Incorporating these items may lead to a positive experience for the guest and 5-star reviews. Your Airbnb guests will not only love it but will appreciate you for it.
