12 Things You’d Never Think to Do With That Roll of Parchment Paper

Most people keep parchment paper around for one reason: baking. It gets pulled out for cookies, lining cake pans, or maybe roasting vegetables, and then it goes right back in the drawer until the next time.

But that role can do a lot more than most people give it credit for. Parchment paper is flexible, moisture-resistant, nonstick, and sturdy enough to handle all kinds of little kitchen and household jobs. Once you start using it in other ways, it quickly becomes one of those things you reach for all the time.

Protect Surfaces While Painting

If you are painting trim, door frames, or baseboards, parchment paper can help shield nearby surfaces from drips and splatters. It bends easily and works well for quick jobs where you need something lightweight and disposable.

Iron Delicate Items With a Barrier

A sheet of parchment paper can be used between an iron and certain fabrics to help protect against scorch marks or residue. It can also be handy if you are working with something delicate and want a smoother layer between the fabric and the iron.

Use It for Gift Wrap in a Pinch

Parchment paper can also work as simple wrapping paper when you need something quick. It has a clean, plain look on its own, and it is easy to dress up with ribbon, twine, stamps, or handwritten notes.

Bake Bacon With Less Mess

Parchment paper is great for oven bacon because it helps keep the pan cleaner and makes greasy strips easier to lift once they are done. It is one of those small kitchen tricks that makes the whole job feel less annoying.

Use It in the Air Fryer

A piece of parchment paper with a few holes poked in it can help reduce mess in the air fryer. It is useful for sticky foods or quick reheats, as long as you leave enough airflow and use it safely.

Wrap Jewelry for Travel

Parchment paper can also help keep necklaces and bracelets from tangling when you pack. Wrapping pieces separately gives them a little protection and keeps them from knotting together in the bottom of a bag.

Line Baking Sheets and Pans

This is still one of the best uses for parchment paper because it makes cleanup so much easier. It helps prevent sticking, protects your pans from baked-on messes, and makes cookies, bars, roasted vegetables, and other baked foods much easier to lift off.

Make a Quick Piping Bag

If you do not have a piping bag on hand, parchment paper can step in. Fold it into a cone, snip the tip, and it works surprisingly well for drizzling icing, piping chocolate, or adding little decorative details to cookies and cakes.

Make Muffin Liners in a Pinch

If you run out of muffin liners, parchment paper can save the day. Cut it into squares and press each one into the muffin tin, and you end up with simple liners that actually look nice once the muffins are baked.

Keep a Kitchen Scale Clean

If you are measuring ingredients one after another, parchment paper can make the process easier. Lay a sheet on the scale, weigh the ingredient, then swap it out for the next one without having to wash the bowl or wipe the scale between steps.

Use It as a Placemat for Kids

A sheet of parchment paper can double as a simple placemat that kids can color on while they wait for dinner. It is an easy trick for holidays, longer meals, or anytime you want to keep little hands busy at the table.

Line Drawers and Shelves

Parchment paper can be used as a simple liner inside drawers or on shelves, especially in kitchens, offices, or craft spaces. It is easy to cut to size, easy to replace, and helps protect surfaces from crumbs, drips, or little everyday messes.
