How to Fill Your Airbnb Calendar on Weekdays (Outside of the Weekend Rush)

When I first started hosting, weekends were never the problem. They booked almost immediately. It was the Monday-through-Thursday stretch that sat empty week after week, cutting into my revenue and making me wonder if it was even possible to keep my place occupied outside of the weekend rush.

Over time, I learned that weekday bookings require a different approach, and small tweaks can make a big difference in filling those gaps. And if weekends were booking without effort, it likely meant that there’s demand for your property, but you just need to apply a few strategic changes to capture weekday guests too.

In this article, I’ll share strategies that other experienced hosts and I have used to attract guests during the week, without sacrificing quality or dropping prices so low that it hurts your business.

Understand Why Weekdays Are Slow in Your Area

Before changing your pricing or rules, figure out why weekdays are slow for you. In some areas, weekday rentals are naturally rare because travelers are primarily there for weekend getaways. In others, there’s steady weekday demand from business travelers, contractors, students, or events.

If you’re in a market where midweek stays are uncommon, you may need to be more creative or target a different audience altogether.

Use Longer Minimum Stays for Future Dates

One strategy is to set a longer minimum stay (four or five nights) for dates that are far in the future. This prevents people from snapping up all the prime weekend dates months ahead and leaving you with unbookable midweek gaps.

As the dates get closer, you can relax these rules and lower the minimum nights to attract last-minute bookings. This method enables you to prioritize longer stays while maintaining flexibility closer to the check-in date.

Shorten Weekday Minimums for Flexibility

Another approach is to have different rules for weekends and weekdays. For example, you might require a three-night minimum on weekends but allow one or two nights during the week. This opens the door for guests who just need a short stay midweek, such as a quick work trip or a midweek getaway.

Having flexible weekday minimums can help you capture travelers who wouldn’t otherwise consider your property.

Offer Weekday Discounts Without Slashing Your Rates

Lowering prices too aggressively can attract the wrong guests, so be careful. Instead, create targeted offers. Some hosts reach out to weekend guests after they book to see if they’d like to extend their stay into the week at a discounted rate. Others offer weekday-only specials for groups like remote workers or retirees.

Even a modest 10–15% discount for weekday nights can make your listing more appealing without hurting your margins.

Fill Gaps With Add-On Nights

One of the simplest ways to boost weekday occupancy is to offer guests booking Friday–Sunday the option to add Thursday or Monday at a reduced rate. Many guests appreciate this option because it allows them to enjoy a long weekend without paying full price for extra nights, often extending a two-night booking to three or four nights.

Some hosts report that nearly all their guests accept this offer, and a few even extend their stay further into the week once they arrive.

Market to a Different Audience Midweek

If your usual guests are weekend tourists, consider targeting groups that travel during the week. This could include:

  • Business travelers
  • Traveling nurses
  • Contractors or crews working in the area
  • College visitors or parents during school events
  • Remote workers looking for a change of scenery

You can highlight weekday-friendly features in your listing, like a dedicated workspace, reliable Wi-Fi, or proximity to conference centers.

Watch Your Competitors

If your weekdays are slow, look at what similar listings in your area are doing. Are their prices lower? Do they have more attractive weekday minimums? Better photos or amenities? Sometimes small improvements in your listing can make a big difference in midweek bookings.
